The primary focus of research conducted by the cluster is on improving patient outcomes and healthcare delivery across the continuum of care in hospital, aged care and community settings. We are particularly concerned with needs in clinical risk and symptom management that require further knowledge and development, and in doing so our research program addresses four of the National Health Priority Areas (AIHW, 2004) namely; cardiovascular health, cancer control, injury prevention and diabetes.

Objectives:

  • To develop and integrate knowledge in the areas of risk and symptom management and patient outcomes in order to enhance the independence and functional wellbeing of individuals in clinical and aged care settings.
  • To develop and integrate knowledge on healthcare service delivery, workforce design and evidence-based clinical decision making, and
  • To strengthen research infrastructure and local/national/ international collaborations that contribute to knowledge development in the area of risk, symptom management and patient outcomes.

The cluster includes an integrated research program with our healthcare partners (Southern Health, The Alfred, Cabrini Health, Barwon Health, Epworth Centre, Eastern Health).
