Health Economics Unit
Professor Rob Carter heads this unit which undertakes a wide range of economic analyses with an emphasis on priority setting and the prevention of chronic disease. There are three integrated research groups within the unit and PhD students make an important contribution to research projects.
- The Health Economics of Obesity Group undertakes research on the cost impact of obesity, the cost-effectiveness of obesity interventions, as well as the quality of life impact of obesity. The lead research fellows in this group are Dr Marj Moodie, Lisa Gold and Catherine Keating, with projects funded through competitive grants and research collaborations.
- The Priority Setting Group has developed and applied innovative methods for priority setting and has a history of competitive grants and government funded projects in areas covering cancer, heart disease, mental health, obesity and prevention of non communicable disease. The lead research fellows in this group are Cathy Mihalopoulos, Sandra Younie, Liliana Bulfone, with important contributions from Sophy Shih and KuiSiang Tay-Teo.
- The Cost Effectiveness Analysis Group undertakes cost of illness and cost-effectiveness research across a variety of health conditions and risk factors and the lead research fellows are Anne Magnus and Stephen Colgan.
