Community and policy based obesity prevention interventions: What is needed to achieve sustainable change?

The Contribution of Acculturation Concepts to Obesity Prevention

Andre Renzaho, Deakin University, VIC

Andre provided a deeper understanding of the relevance of different cultural beliefs and values to health behaviours and subsequently to the way in which interventions are designed and implemented. He cautioned against a one size fits all approach and instead promoted a respectful and reciprocal exchange that builds on the strengths and resources of the community. He advocated for a shift to culturally competent systems and policies.
