Mentoring at Deakin

Deakin's Strategic Plan "Delivering Effective Partnerships" demonstrates the commitment Deakin has to encouraging and fostering effective partnerships amongst staff. In support of this, the University currently offers several facilitated mentoring opportunities to staff, to aid building effective partnerships and encourage collegial approaches to work as well as personal and professional development. These programs have a strong focus on developing staff internally to promote "growing our own" within Deakin.

Benefits of a mentoring partnership can include opportunities for staff to:

  • learn about Deakin, their Faculty, Division or Institute as part of an induction process
  • gain an understanding of different perspectives of Deakin's objectives and operations
  • learn new skills and access knowledge from different staff members about particular areas of expertise
  • obtain guidance and assistance in identifying and implementing strategies to achieve personal career objectives
  • benefit from the experience of more senior or longer serving members of staff
