Information and Communication Technology (ICT) standards
Deakin eSolutions (DeS) is responsible for providing a quality managed and consistent approach to the development and maintenance of ICT software and hardware at Deakin University. It is therefore necessary that ICT standards are documented, made available and adhered to by all parties undertaking work in Deakin's ICT environment (including University staff, students and contractors employed by the University to complete specific statements of work).
Many ICT standards have already been documented by DeS, and are included in the list of current ICT standards.
The following are just a few examples that demonstrate occasions when Deakin University ICT standards must be followed:
- The development and maintenance of a web application to be used by the Deakin University community.
- The development and maintenance of Deakin University networked services.
- The addition and installation of audio visual equipment into a Deakin University teaching space.
- The addition and installation of videoconferencing equipment into Deakin University teaching spaces, meeting rooms or personal offices.
Approval
ICT standards go through a rigourous approval process. Once submitted they are reviewed by the ICT Standards Group and given a status. Approved standards are forwarded to the Enterprise Architecture Working Party for final endorsement.
Any staff member at Deakin University is able to submit an ICT standard for approval.
