Deakin forms strategic partnerships with local government, sporting organisations, not-for-profit organisations and community venues across Melbourne. We enjoy forging new connections, fostering our relationships and look forward to enhancing and developing our partnerships in future years.
Our networks and alliances across Melbourne improve access and opportunities for our students and staff. This, in turn, improves our teaching, research and industry engagement activities, which helps to create wider positive impact for our communities.
Memberships
Deakin University has strategic memberships with local, state and national bodies. Through our memberships we participate in dialogue with key decision-makers and provide opportunity for our students, staff and the communities we serve. Our current memberships are listed below.
Committee for Economic Development of Australia
Deakin is a trustee of the Committee for Economic Development of Australia (CEDA). The organisation provides thought leadership and policy perspectives on the economic and social issues affecting Australia. CEDA Trustees are senior representatives from member organisations and form the core of the CEDA network locally and nationally.
Being a CEDA Trustee provides opportunities for Deakin to network at senior levels. It also enables the university to gain access and contribute to CEDA research and participate in public policy discussions. We also offer our vision and ideas to advance Australia's economic development through forums that deliver lively debate and critical perspectives.
Whitehorse Business Group
Deakin is an active member of the Whitehorse Business Group (WBG) – an independent business group assisting Whitehorse City Council in its development of local business and industry initiatives.
The university regularly engages with and supports WBG and its activities. This includes staff representation on its board and committees, and business awards judging panel, as well as guest speaking opportunities.
Our membership enables Deakin staff and students to connect and network with other local business professionals, share information and learn from one another. Over the years we've hosted a number of important WBG events on campus, ensuring we play an active role in the Whitehorse business community.
In the heart of Melbourne
Deakin Edge is a distinctive theatre space located within Melbourne's Federation Square. This partnership is a reflection of the University's commitment to community access and support for creativity, inspiring ideas, public debate and dialogue.
It's fitting the theatre bears the Deakin name, given the university's namesake – Alfred Deakin – is considered one of the founding fathers of Australian federation. It also provides great synergy, as the venue is home to many diverse community groups hosting a wide array of publicly accessible intellectual, innovative and creative events and programs.
Use our facilities in Burwood
Deakin's Burwood Campus isn't just for students and staff. We're a hub of activity for the local community. We offer cafes, restaurants, a gym and sporting facilities, a vibrant art gallery and innovative library.
Deakin University Community Bank
Deakin University has partnered with Bendigo and Adelaide Bank to create Deakin University Community Bank®. The partnership strives towards establishing new partnerships in regional centres, innovation in research, and a scholarship program (Bendigo Bank Community Scholarships).
