Deakin students IMMERSe themselves in the community

20th May 2014

Twenty medical students from the Deakin University School of Medicine are immersing themselves in local communities across south-west Victoria.

The students are part of the IMMERSe program and are spending the third year of their post graduate course in 10 south-west Victorian towns and 15 different clinics. The students are based in Ararat, Bacchus Marsh, Camperdown, Casterton, Colac, Daylesford, Hamilton, Horsham, Portland and Stawell.

The students take part in various community engagement exercises.  Recently there included supporting Great Ocean Road events at Apollo Bay, participating as a group in running events and using teddy bears and other soft toys to teach children about needles, sunburn, healthy eating and operations.
