Our English language requirements are divided into five bands – from Band A through to Band E. 

Band A represents the most basic English skills required and Band E represents the highest.

You can use your results from certain tests to find out which of Deakin's language bands you fit into. You must have completed these tests within two years of enrolling at Deakin, unless otherwise specified.

Previous study

If you've completed certain types of tertiary or secondary studies, you may be able to use those qualifications to meet your undergraduate English language requirements.

University-level (tertiary) study

  • Study at an institution within Australia or a specified English speaking country, completed no more than two years prior to enrolment*.
  • Study at an institution within Australia or a specified English-speaking country, completed more than two years prior to enrolment at Deakin*.
  • Study at an institution within a non-English speaking country, but where English is the language of instruction and assessment for the entire institution, completed no more than five years prior to enrolment at Deakin.
  • English Medium program from an approved Thai university (Chulalongkorn, Mahidol, Chiang Mai, Thammasat and Kasetsart Universities and King Mongkot Institute of Technology).
