Study with us
Medicine and surgery
Graduates who satisfactorily complete an accredited intern year following successful completion of this course will qualify as registered medical practitioners in Australia and New Zealand. Deakin’s transition from Bachelor of Medicine / Bachelor of Surgery to a Doctor of Medicine is pending accreditation by the Australian Medical Council.
Graduates of our optometry and medical imaging degrees will be qualified to apply for registration with AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency).
Medicine and surgery graduates are also eligible for accreditation from AMC (Australian Medical Council).

We have a strong emphasis on work-integrated learning at the School of Medicine with students spending between 25-50% of their study participating in clinical placements.
This means you will enter your chosen profession with plenty of hands-on experience and confidence in dealing directly with patients.
