Nicolas Kambouropoulos - School of Psychology
This example demonstrates the use of eLive in a second year Psychology unit. The unit is primarily focused on teaching students how to analyse and interpret data obtained from a study in the field of psychology.
One of the main aspects of the unit is introducing students to a software package that conducts statistical analyses of data. The main assessment is in the form of a laboratory report and students are required to analyse some mock data using the software program, interpret the results and then report the data in the appropriate format. The aim of the eLive session is to bridge the gap between the on-campus and off-campus students by having students engage with the software program.
Using eLive, it is possible to demonstrate the use of the program in real time. Off-campus students are able to view the analysis as it happens and can ask questions about the process and the results obtained. This is a highly effective method for introducing off-campus students to this particular software program and is a way of reconciling the on- and off-campus learning experience.
Feedback from students has been positive and using eLive to demonstrate the use of this statistical package has become a major teaching component of the unit.
