eLive

ElluminateLive! (eLive) aims to enhance both on- and off-campus learning as it facilitates communication and collaboration between staff and students. eLive enables the delivery and facilitation of online learning, training, coaching, mentoring and meetings in real time.

eLive allows for:

  • talking over the Internet
  • chatting via text online
  • sharing applications, videos and presentations
  • streaming multimedia files.

Some ideas on how to use eLive in teaching:

  • introduce students to each other - especially off-campus students. Hearing the sound of a voice can help people to get to know and trust each other much quicker than with text communication
  • quickly sort out administrative matters such as group membership, roles, task requirements and project timetables
  • run tutorials for students on other campuses, or for off-campus students
  • encourage students to participate, eg negotiate outcomes, methods, contribute opinions, mentor each other
  • give students a safe environment in which to collaborate and practise presenting
  • present guest speakers and have students ask them questions
  • run role plays and debates
  • include auditory and visual presentations or activities to engage learners who prefer those styles
  • record sessions for students to revise or for those who miss sessions
  • brief students on assignment requirements
  • revise a unit and provide pre-exam advice (recorded sessions can be made available in future semesters)
  • run meetings with staff, administrators or students in other campuses.

Creating an eLive session

eLive participants can either be moderators or participants. Normally, Deakin staff will be moderators and students will be participants. However, there may be times when you will need to make your students moderators in an eLive session. An example of why you might do this is so students can upload PowerPoint presentations and record sessions.

The role you want students to play in an eLive session will affect how you create that session. Students cannot create an eLive session.
