Teaching with DSO

The Teaching with DSO workshop within theProfessional Development for Casual Academic Staff (PDCAS) program is designed for all academic staff that are unfamiliar with Deakin's online teaching and learning system Deakin Studies Online (DSO). Both lecturers and sessional teachers are welcome to attend. Sessional teachers/casual academics will gain credit towards the PDCAS program facilitated by the Institute if they attend.

This face-to-face workshop or online self paced module provides a basic overview of Deakin Studies Online (DSO) and its role in teaching and learning at Deakin. Against this backdrop, the module is designed to interactively guide the participant through a range of tasks which they may need to perform in their teaching.

The approach in this module is a hands-on one, so as to allow participants to develop the basic navigational skills needed. The module exposes participants to the environment that students will be involved in, as this helps to develop a better understanding of what is expected of students, and allows participants to be better placed to assist students.

At the completion of this module participants should be able to:

  • identify their role within their unit(s) in DSO
  • locate and navigate the available views
  • contribute to a unit's discussion space
  • navigate through a learning unit module
  • locate a unit's learning resources
  • access an assignment submitted for a unit.

Please check the schedule to register for upcoming events.
