Introduction to tertiary education

The Introduction to tertiary education online module within the Professional Development for Casual Academic Staff (PDCAS) program looks at the stages which a tutor goes through during a trimester at Deakin. This module is intended to be a guide for 'new' tutors in their first trimester with the university. It does not provide all the answers, but it does aim to highlight some key milestones that you can expect along your journey, as well as offer a whole range of suggestions as to how to make this journey a little easier.
Depending on whether you will be involved with first year, second year or final year students, there are elements in this module common to all levels.

At the completion of this module participants should be able to:

• identify the key stages you will experience during trimester
• apply some educational theory as it applies to tertiary teaching
• judge which tips and tactics you may use in your teaching
• reflect on your own approach to teaching.
