Activity 5: Reviewing assessment

Each time a unit is offered, minor changes are often made to some of the assessment tasks. But periodically, it is necessary to review the whole assessment approach to ensure that it continues to be relevant and innovative. The reviewing process is best carried out by a team of people which includes discipline-based colleagues, an education designer and perhaps a technical systems expert, especially when online assessment is being considered.

When the time comes for a complete overhaul of your assessment practice, you will find that the CSHE publication Guide for Reviewing Assessment is a very useful tool. It is best used for team-based reviews, but could also be used as a framework for academics working individually. You can download a pdf version or MSWord version of the document to use when you need it.
