- About Deakin
BioDeakin is a whole-of-university initiative, created to advance scholarship, research and teaching across a range of applied biotechnology areas. This multi-disciplinary grouping of scientists encompasses the University's strengths in biosciences. The goal is to generate and transform knowledge from biotechnology into practical solutions, which will advance health, social, environmental and economic development.
BioDeakin has been instrumental in the formation of BioGeelong, with Prof Andrew Parratt as the inaugural Chairman, a role he held for 3 years. Its membership includes all major organisations with interests in biotechnology related research in the Geelong region (Deakin University, ChemGenex, Barwon Health, CSIRO Australian Animal Health Laboratories, CSIRO Textiles and Fibre Technology, Primary Industries Victoria Marine and Freshwater Research Institute, The City of Greater Geelong, The Gordon Institute of TAFE, PathCare and Coulter Roache).
