Broadband offer
The Telstra BigPond Broadband scheme provides the Deakin community with cost effective access to broadband technology with the added benefit of all traffic between the registered location and Deakin University being automatically unmetered.
Deakin University has an agreement with Telstra BigPond whereby any person utilising Telstra BigPond services for broadband internet access will not be charged for data that is downloaded from the Deakin University web site (anything beginning with www.deakin.edu.au). The Telstra BigPond Unmetered Sitelist lists Deakin University as an external, unmetered site for BigPond members.
Please note: Content accessed within DSO d2l.deakin.edu.au (eg. PDF files, lecture notes) will also be unmetered. However, if you follow links to an external website eg. YouTube - you will incur costs.
As a convenient way to sign up for Telstra BigPond Broadband services you may choose to access the Telstra website to select an appropriate BigPond Broadband service for you. Alternatively, contact Telstra BigPond directly to sign up for Broadband internet access. If you are a current Telstra BigPond Broadband customer there is no action for you to take as this offer is already available to you.
It is not necessary to have any other Telstra services to sign up for Telstra BigPond Broadband internet access. Staff should note that the Deakin Corporate Mobile Plan is NOT an eligible mobile service for the purpose of calculating plan costs. When asked for a Telstra Account Number on the application form you should insert your OWN Telstra Account Number if you have one. If not, leave this space blank. You are able to select from any of the Telstra BigPond Broadband plans on offer at the time of application.
Please be aware that this offer applies to Telstra BigPond Broadband internet access only.
All initial support requests relating to Telstra broadband setup should be made to the Telstra support service at http://my.bigpond.com/help/contactus/. The IT Service Desk will assist with any Deakin-specific support requests once you have a functioning broadband connection.
