While copyright infringement is not a threat to Deakin's IT infrastructure, failure to comply with copyright or license restrictions may lead to disciplinary action, including loss of access privileges according to University legislation and policy.
The University absolutely forbids the use of its computing and communications facilities for any purpose which would breach copyright.
Any breach may lead to disciplinary action, including loss of access privileges and reporting of the incident to the appropriate Discipline Committee, according to University legislation and policy.
The three areas of copyright that relate to Information Technology:
Within the area of copyright music and movies the use of University equipment to download, copy, compress, store, transfer or redistribute content from commercial CDs or DVDs without the permission of the copyright owner or ability to rely on the Educational Music Licence, may lead to the prosecution of both the University and the individual.
There are some websites which offer with the copyright owner's permission - MP3 files or other music formats for free download. The University's information systems should NOT be used for this purpose. If you want to download or transfer music for any non-academic purpose, this should be done privately, and not on a University-owned computer or through the University's information systems.
The University will remove any alleged infringing material on its information systems without prior notification.
