The audiovisual service consists of audiovisual (AV) equipment, television content viewing and videoconferencing.
Teaching spaces and meeting rooms can contain various combinations of the following audio and visual equipment: sound equipment, automated lecterns, data projectors, projection screens, overhead projectors, DVD players, VCR players, mobile and/or electronic whiteboards, document cameras.
Fitout, upgrade and support: ITSD is centrally funded to fit out a number of new spaces each year, and support and upgrade equipment for centrally bookable teaching spaces. ITSD is not funded to provide these services for locally owned and bookable spaces.
External parties and events: Provision of equipment and/or support for the purposes of use by external parties and events will be quoted and charged for on an individual basis.
Access to free-to-air high definition television channels are available over the Deakin University network (wired only) on the four main campuses including in student residences. These channels can be viewed through a television unit with specially installed set top box that ITSD will provide or via the VLC media player software that is available for installation from the software catalogue.
Please contact the IT Service Desk for further information regarding how to use this service including recommendations regarding the most suitable televisions. Onsite or remote support for installations of this service in student residences is available. Please contact the IT Service Desk with your query or issue.
As new standard service channels become available, ITSD will add them to be viewable via this service in approximately 20 business days. The Knowledge Media Division provide an offair broadcast recording service for staff.
Viewing through VLC media player: No charges will be incurred as ITSD is centrally funded to provide this service.
Set top box: The required type of set top box will be provided by ITSD on a cost recovery basis.
Many teaching spaces and meetings rooms across the Deakin University campuses contain videoconferencing equipment which allows connection with any other videoconferencing site, internal or external, for two way multisite videoconferences. When requesting a booking for a videoconference, at least 2 days notice must be given to ITSD. ITSD aims to achieve 98.5% availability of videoconferencing units each calendar month.
A number of guides are available to assist those using the videoconferencing service. Group or individual hands-on training sessions are available for this service and can be arranged by logging a call with the IT Service Desk.
A space audit can be carried out by ITSD staff with recommendations made regarding appropriate video conferencing equipment for spaces that require fit out prior to purchasing and installation.

ITSD is not funded to provide these services for locally owned and bookable facilities or those not covered by current maintenance agreements. Which new spaces are fitted out with new videoconferencing equipment each year is determined by a working party comprised of both ITSD and business area representatives. Further installations not allocated funding through this process can be requested and funded directly by business areas.
External parties and events: Provision of equipment and/or support for the purposes of use by external parties and events will be quoted and charged for on an individual basis. Staff may view commercial charging rates.
