The Print, copy, fax, scan service consists of printing for students, printing for staff, copying, faxing and scanning.
Printers are provided for students in a number of locations across all University campuses. Students can print from any printer by swiping their Deakin card at the preferred printer which will release the printed document.
All University printers available for student printing are covered by the Lexmark total care service which includes provision of replacement consumables such as toner cartridges and maintenance kits as well as onsite servicing when an internal error occurs. Errors that appear on the device display require a customer-initiated call to Lexmark for assistance.
DeS aims to achieve 95% availability of this service each calendar month.
Charging for this service is dependent on the type of printing selected. Charges can be viewed on the Current Students website.

Many of the multifunctional printing devices available across the University campuses located in staff areas also provide the ability for staff to send faxes. Faxing facilities for students are not provided.

Cost of sending a fax: Sending a fax incurs the cost of a telephone connection to the location being faxed and is charged back to the relevant Faculty, Institute or Other Area.

Fax enabled device purchase/decommision and other costs: As fax enabled devices are part of multifunctional printing devices, they incur the same charges as outlined for printers.
There are two scanning options available for use by students in a number of locations on all Deakin University campuses. They are scanning using flatbed scanners that are located in some computer laboratories and scanning and sending the output directly to a Deakin email account using the Lexmark multifunction printers.
Staff are able to scan documents and either send the output directly to a Deakin email account from a multifunction printer or print the scanned documents.

Scanning and sending directly to email: Scanning of documents and sending them directly to an email address incurs no cost.
Scanning using a flatbed scanner: DeS is centrally funded to provide a number of flatbed scanners in computer laboratories. No charge is incurred for their use.
