Software licence managed server

This service provides the ability for network licensed software to run on DeS managed servers. DeS will maintain the hardware, operating system, security and backup capability while allowing control to be delegated to a designated owner/owners for administration, backup recovery and application management. Please contact the IT Service Desk for further details.

DeS house and manage a number of software licence servers and upon request will create new licence management services.

DeS will maintain the hardware, operating system (MS Windows) and licence server software and keep them patched and up to date. As newer versions of the licence server software become available, DeS will liaise with the designated owner/owners to migrate to the new version.

Response timeframes for standard Service Requests for this service are:

Request to DeS to Maximum business days to complete
Create a new licence server installation (note that more complicated requests will be assessed and a timeframe will be negotiated) 3 days

DeS aims to achieve 99% availability of this service each calendar month.

Charges

New installation of a software licence server on a managed server: DeS is centrally funded to provide this service to Faculties, Institutes and Other Areas.

Client software that requires a software licence server: Faculties, Institutes and Other Areas are required to purchase their own client software unless it is a University wide licence agreement managed by DeS.  The network license software is something that is provided from the vendor, and this special type of licence may  need to be ordered up front. When purchasing licences, customers are recommended to purchase network based licences rather than individual licences.

External parties and events: Provision of this service for the purposes of use by external parties and events will be quoted and charged for on an individual basis.
