Software

This service provides software that is licensed for educational purposes for Deakin staff to install on University owned workstations and for staff and students to install on personally owned workstations. This service also manages University owned software including making it available in computer laboratories for student use.

Software for download and on DVD

Software provided under this service is available on a Software Essentials DVD that is produced prior to Trimester 1 each year. These DVDs are sent to new students and are also available from many locations around campus including Faculty offices and the Libraries. Much of this software is also available here.

DeS aims to achieve 99% availability of the software website each calendar month.

Software in computer laboratories

Des will install software in computer laboratories at any time of the year when given 8 weeks notice prior to when it is required for use. Requests can be made by submitting this form with the 8 week period to completion commencing once all submitted information has been validated as complete and correct. During the 8 week period the software will:

  • be transformed into a format that allows distribution to computer laboratory workstations;
  • have a technical solution for sharing licences put in place if required;
  • be tested for compatibility with the Deakin environment with any issues resulting being fixed;
  • be tested by someone who uses the software with any issues resulting being fixed; and
