This service provides staff and students with secure space on the network where files can be saved. A quota of 10 gigabytes of file storage space is allocated to authorised staff using the Deakin University network. A quota of 5 gigabytes of file storage space is allocated to authorised students using the Deakin University network.
All Deakin staff and students are provided with a home directory (h drive). The home directory is a location where personal data that isn't meant to be shared with others can be stored. All file storage space is backed up on a daily basis by DeS. Staff and students can restore files to their home directory themselves by following the instructions in the DeS help sheet titled 'Home directory: saving and restoring files' which can be found on the eSolutions Publications website.
For the storage of corporate data, file shares (indicated by being mapped to letters apart from the h drive) are provided for use by staff only. File shares are provided as collaborative file saving places shared by groups defined by individual Faculties, Institutes and Other areas. File share access is administered by an individual in each business area. Staff can access a list of file share administrators to find out who to contact regarding file shares in their area.
DeS aims to achieve 98.5% availability of this service each calendar month.
File space allocation: DeS is centrally funded to provide this service to all Deakin University staff and students.
External parties and events: Provision of file storage space for the purposes of use by external parties and events will be quoted and charged for on an individual basis.
