Workstations for staff

This service provides University staff with laptop and desktop computers that are usually leased and changed over every three years for a new model. This service also provides a managed software operating environment that includes access to a software catalogue as well as having appropriate security measures in place such as regularly updated anti-virus software.

The Deakin University Workstation Scheme (DUWS) includes:

  • evaluation of new computer models on a regular basis to ensure they can support business needs and use;
  • onsite warranty coverage when issues are experienced (note that Lenovo monitors that are damaged during the period of lease can not be repaired and a replacement will need to be purchased);
  • installation of new hardware components such as RAM and video cards for Acer hardware only (note that these will then become part of the computer and must be returned at end of lease).

Response timeframes for standard Service Requests for this service are:

Request to DeS to Maximum business days to complete
Purchase a new workstation and have it installed 30 days
Change the configuration or the location of an existing workstation 30 days
Decommission an existing workstation 30 days
