Bigger mailboxWe know that many of you exceed your email quota due to the large amount of data you store over the course of your candidature. We have increased your quota from 500MB to 5GB. If that's still not enough, get more space by cleaning up your mailbox - archiving important items or export them to your ISILON share folder. You might also be interested in general information on email. |

Creating a lifetime research email addressYour student email address will eventually be deleted (and even re-used) when you complete your studies at Deakin. You can now create a lifetime ‘research’ email alias: email-address@research.deakin.edu.au that allows you to forward your email to any email address when you leave Deakin via the Research Contacts Management Tool. |

Supersized internet quotaAs an HDR student, you previously received an internet quota of 8GB per trimester. If you exceeded this quota, your internet would slow right down. We have increased this to the same size as Deakin staff quotas so you should now have more than enough to carry out your research activities. In the rare case that you do experience slowing, contact the Service Desk. You might also be interested in general information on internet access. |

Storing your research dataIt's important to store your research data where it’s secure, accessible and backed-up. Your H:/ drive is not the best place for this. The University’s ISILON shares are where your research data should be stored. To organise this, contact your Faculty or Institute IT Representative. You might also be interested in general information on file storage. If something happens to your data, you are able to restore files and folders immediately yourself. |

Temporary file storage facilityFor short-term backup requirements (e.g. when your workstation is being updated or replaced) you can create a Rapid Share. Rapid shares are temporary file shares for the storage of short-term data. This facility is now available to you. Please note that backups are not taken of these shares. |

Accessing Faculty & Institute sharesIf you are logging on with a student account, you may not automatically have access to the file shares within your Faculty or Institute. However, you can request access to these shares by contacting your Faculty or Institute IT Representative. |

Booking rooms & other assetsSometimes you need to book rooms, vehicles or other University assets that are not accessible using a student account. If you need to book assets for a seminar or conference, you need to speak with your Faculty or Institute staff. The Service Desk can help by advising the appropriate contact person for you. |
