Course materials, design and development

Knowledge Media Division (KMD) offers an extensive consultancy service to support faculty teaching and learning needs. This includes development of course materials in a range of digital, online and print formats and extends to faculty specific promotional materials development within the University's Course Materials Quality Framework.

Deakin University has a list of 10 quality principles for the development of course materials which address content, structure, presentation and pedagogy. The standards which form the basis of KMD's Quality Review of course materials are:

4. Acknowledged: Content is clearly identified, acknowledged and accurately branded

6. Presentable: Content is formatted and presented appropriately and meets technical standards

7. Compliant: Content meets legislative requirements (copyright, accessibility, privacy, plagiarism)

KMD supports faculties' learning and teaching aims by working with unit chairs and their teams to develop course materials for more than 1400 units every year. This draws upon a broad range of design and development services to produce quality course materials for Deakin Studies Online (DSO), CD-Rom, DVD, or print.

Our design and development expertise includes:

  • Sound and Vision - scripting and recording of audio and/or video, and photography
  • Editing (print and online materials)
  • Multimedia solutions interactive role-play simulations and exercises
  • DVD recording of television and radio programs to play back in lectures or seminars
  • Lecture recording (iLecture) services
