This collection covers culture and institutions; customs, etiquette, folklore; costume and personal appearance; customs of life cycle and domestic life; death customs; etiquette (manners); folklore; customs of war and diplomacy; hominidae, including physical anthropology.

Purpose of the collection

The Library collects in the field of Anthropology primarily to support the teaching and research needs of the School of History, Heritage & Society within the Faculty of Arts and Education. Resources in this area are also used to varying degrees by other Schools in the University.

Users/courses supported by the collection

The School of History, Heritage & Society offers Anthropology as a major sequence in the Bachelor of Arts, and as an Honours program for the Bachelor of Arts. Postgraduate research degrees in anthropology are also available.

Existing Collection:

Major online databases such as Anthrosource, Expanded Academic ASAP, Academic Search Complete and Humanities International Complete, Sociological Abstracts, Social Sciences Citation Index (within Web of Science) and Multicultural Australia and Immigration Studies provide access to a range of information.

Selection notes:

This collection is mainly located at the Geelong at Waurn Ponds campus Library. Purchased material will be located according to the campus location of the requestor. Other material should be located as follows:

  • Cultural studies (M,G,W)
  • War (G,M)
