This collection covers museology; philosophy and theory of art; civic and landscape art; architecture (not including landscape architecture which is in the agriculture collection); plastic arts; sculpture; drawing and decorative arts; painting and paintings; graphic arts, printmaking and prints, and photography and photographs.

Purpose of the collection

The Library collects in the field of Art and Architecture primarily to support the teaching and research needs of the School of Communication and Creative Arts and the School of Education within the Faculty of Arts and Education, and the School of Architecture and Built Environment within the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Built Environment.

Resources in this area are also used to varying degrees by other Schools in the University.

Users/courses supported by the collection

The School of Communication and Creative Arts offers the following performing and creative arts disciplines

Postgraduate courses are offered in Film and Video, Creative Enterprise, Media and Communication and postgraduate research degrees in all areas.

The School of Architecture and Built Environment offers undergraduate and postgraduate studies in the following areas:

  • Art and Society
  • Architecture
  • Design

The School of Humanities and Social Sciences offers postgraduate studies in Cultural Heritage and Museum Studies.

The School of Education offers postgraduate studies in arts education.

Existing Collection:

Major online databases such as ARTbibliographies Modern, ArtStor, Design and Applied Arts Index, Expanded Academic ASAP, Academic Search Complete, Art and Architecture Complete, Australian Public Affairs – Full Text, Australian Heritage Bibliography, Australian Architecture Database, Australian Building Construction and Engineering Database, Avery Index to Architectural Periodicals provide access to a range of information.

There is also a significant collection of rare books related to architecture housed in the Special Collection.
