This collection covers technology (applied sciences), engineering & allied operations, home economics & family living, chemical engineering & allied technologies, manufacturing, the manufacture of products for specific uses, and building.

Purpose of the collection

The Library collects in this field to support the teaching and research needs of the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Built Environment generally, and the School of Engineering and School of Architecture & Building specifically.
Resources in this area also supports teaching and research needs within the Faculty of Health.

Users/courses supported by the collection

The School of Engineering in the Faculty of Science & Technology offers undergraduate degrees, Bachelor of Engineering (Civil), Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) and Bachelor of Engineering (Mechatronics and Robotics).

Postgraduate courses in Master of Engineering, Master of Engineering (Professional), Master of Water Resources Management are offered, as well as Higher Degrees by Research.

Areas of study in the School of Architecture and Built Environment in the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Built Environment include:

  • Architecture
  • Construction Management
  • Facilities Management
  • Planning
  • Urban Design

The School of Health and Social Development in the Faculty of Health offers a range of undergraduate, postgraduate and research degrees.

Existing Collection:

Major online databases such as Applied Science and Technology Abstracts, Academic Search Complete, Web of Knowledge, Environmental Sciences and Pollution Management, Business Source Complete, Compendex, IEEExplore, FSTA, CCINFOWeb and SciVerse provide access to a range of information.

Selection Notes:

This collection covers a wide range of topics, but can be broken down into four broad areas in which Deakin is interested:

  • Building and construction (F)
  • Chemical technology, with Separation processes being important (G), and Biotechnology (G, M)
  • Engineering (G)
  • Home economics, with only Food and drink being a focus (G, M)
