This collection covers Language and Linguistics, and Literature.

Purpose of the collection

The Library collects in the field of Language, Linguistics and Literature primarily to support the teaching and research needs of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences and the School of Communication and Creative Arts within the Faculty of Arts and Education. Resources in this area are also used to varying degrees by other Schools in the University.

Users/Courses Supported by the collection

The School of Humanities and Social Sciences offers an undergraduate degree Bachelor of Arts, with major sequences in Arabic, Chinese, Indonesian, Italian and Language and Culture Studies. The School also offers a Diploma of Language.

The School of Communication and Creative Arts offers a suite of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in

Existing Collection:

Major online databases such as Academic Search Complete, Expanded Academic ASAP, Linguistics and Language Behavior Abstracts, MLA, APA Full text, Austlit, Humanities International Complete, Literature Resource Center, JSTOR, Project Muse and The Source provide access to a range of information.

Specialised collections include the Australian Multicultural Literature Collection at the Geelong at Waurn Ponds campus Library and the Children’s Literature Research Collection, the Children’s Book Council of Australia – Victorian Branch Collection, and the Barbara Elkhorne Collection all at Melbourne.
