This collection covers physical education (as part of elementary education), recreational arts, indoor games and amusements, indoor games of skill, games of chance, athletic and outdoor sports and games, aquatic and air sports, equestrian sports and animal racing, and fishing, hunting and shooting.

Purpose of the collection

The Library collects in the field of Physical Education and Recreation primarily to support the teaching and research needs of the School of Exercise & Nutrition Sciences in the Faculty of Health.
Resources in this area are also used by other schools within the Faculty of Health and for the Sport Management courses offered by the Faculty of Business and Law. The Faculty of Arts & Education offers a Bachelor of Health and Physical Education, and units in primary and secondary physical education. The School of Life & Environmental Sciences, within the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Built Environment, also has a minor interest in this collection, in relation to the impact of use on the environment.

Users/Courses supported by the collection

The School of Exercise & Nutrition Sciences offers undergraduate courses in the following areas

  • Bachelor of Exercise & Sport Science

Postgraduate research degrees are available in the areas of physical activity, sports medicine and athlete monitoring and performance management.

The Faculty of Business and Law offers a Bachelor of Sport Development, Bachelor of Business (Sports Management), a Graduate Certificate of Business (Sport Management) and a Master of Business (Sport Management).
In this Faculty an interdisciplinary research group studies Sport, Leisure and Society.

This collection is mainly relevant at Melbourne, with some interest in physical education in schools at Melbourne, Geelong and Warrnambool.
