Role

The Director, Collections and Global Access is responsible for the Library's collections and access to them, along with the Copyright and licensing environments around them. Collections and access are impacted by the global information industry and the scholarly communications lifecycle, metadata supporting digital initiatives, and a knowledge of the legislative framework within which access to knowledge resources is enabled.
The role, provides leadership and expertise to drive new models of access to highly digital and media rich collections, and a future a vision for the Library's print and special collections.

The Director oversees the Library's information management functions, including strategies to acquire and manage the Library's digital and physical collections, and the negotiation and implementation of access to enable creative use of knowledge resources.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop the strategic vision for collections and content, and models of access to global information resources supporting learning, teaching and research.
  • Lead, direct and manage the development and implementation of metadata strategies, standards and workflows that support the discovery and curation of the Library's collections and content, including digital and digitised content, and scholarly partnership projects.
  • Lead and direct the Library's information management functions, including quality assured approaches to the acquisition, licensing and preservation of digital and print knowledge resources.
  • Shape strategies and outreach opportunities that ensure long-term value and active engagement with the Alfred Deakin Prime Ministerial Library and Special Collections.
  • Oversee the management of copyright programs and functions within the context of legislative requirements and minimising risk.
