The Director, Global Information Access, reports to the University Librarian/Executive Director, Academic Support. The Director is a member of the Library Executive, provides high-level advice to the University Librarian and contributes to the strategic vision and direction of the University Library. The Director may chair internal Library committees and represent the University Librarian on university-wide committees and external committees as required.

The Director develops and maintains a broad network of partners amongst University staff at a senior level to support and advance the Library’s programs and ensure services are aligned with University strategic directions and developments. The Director works extensively with senior staff across the Library to ensure the appropriate development and delivery of services.

The Director actively participates in the wider professional community to build and share expertise, keep current on trends and developments, and enhance the Library’s reputation. The Director is a key contact for the Library’s consortial partnerships and collaborations with other libraries.


  • Oversee the Library’s content and collections, leading the planning and development of library services providing access to global information resources for cloud and located learning and research
  • Develop and implement strategic responses to a dynamic global information environment, including quality assured approaches to data management, access and rights issues
  • Research, lead and develop programs to build and transform the Library’s role within the University in improving access to and enabling creative use of scholarly information and resources
  • Lead library-wide projects to strengthen Library staff capabilities in driving the digital frontier at Deakin
  • Provide high-level advice to the University Librarian and Executive Director, Academic Support, contributing to the shaping of the Library’s long term and operational plans that best align with the University’s strategic imperatives
  • Ensure the implementation of all University policies that relate to the areas for which the position is responsible, in particular, those relating to equal opportunity, occupational health and safety, risk management, staff development and staff performance planning and review.
