Acceptable use of electronic resources
Deakin University Library provides access to electronic resources for education, research or personal use. The majority of these resources are governed by licence agreements restricting use to current authorised University staff and students. Some electronic resources may also be used by other registered borrowers.
Use by individual users is subject to acceptance of the condition that they use these electronic resources only as permitted under the terms and conditions of the licence agreements, and/or copyright law.
When a licence applies, the terms of use will be shown from the links called "Licensing & Resource Info" or "more info".
It is usually OK to...
- Print and save individual articles for personal use
- Make and use a copy for your personal learning and research at Deakin University
- Share a copy with other staff and students at Deakin University
- Make a link to an article for your teaching, learning and research at Deakin University
It is usually NOT OK to...
- Copy multiple articles/chapters from the same journal or e-book
- Make multiple copies of the same article to use as class handouts or in course packs
- Make an electronic copy of an article and post it online
- Do any sort of systematic copying such as making a copy of every article in an issue of an online journal or making a copy of an entire online book
- Make a copy for use outside Deakin University
- Share a copy with people who are not staff or students of Deakin University
- Use for commercial purposes
- Remove or modify source details
These are just examples. In some cases a licence may allow you to do more things and in other cases a licence may be more restrictive. If, after checking the individual licence permissions, you require more advice please contact serial.orders@deakin.edu.au.
