Borrow from our libraries

How do I borrow?

  • Borrow items using your Deakin Card. Contact Deakin Central if you don't have one yet
  • You can check out items yourself at the self check unit, or library staff can help you at the service desk
  • Request items out on loan or at another Deakin campus. You can track the progress of these 'holds' in MyLibrary

What equipment can I borrow?

Digital equipment is available for loan. Brief instructions are supplied with each device.

Loan: 2 hours or 1 day (dependent on campus)
Available at: all campuses

Loan: 14 days, no renewal
Available at: all campuses
Details: each Kindle comes loaded with a number of titles and you can request to add more. Find Kindles via the Library catalogue.

Available at: Waurn Ponds
Details:

  • you can borrow a key from the service desk for lockers on Level 1
  • rent a locker on Level 2 which requires a $2 coin
  • your coin is refunded when the key is returned to the locker
  • Level 2 lockers are cleared each morning.

What can I borrow and for how long?

  • General loans include books, CVDs, videos, and curriculum resource material
  • 7 day loans can include prescribed texts and other high use items
  • BONUS+ loans are books requested from other libraries in the scheme

Our collection also has 1 day and 2 hour loan items available for borrowing by Deakin University staff and students.

We can offer flexible loans for most Library items, just ask us.

**Please note that we are unable to send books belonging to other libraries overseas.

Using the off-campus mail delivery service

You are eligible for off-campus delivery if you are an off-campus student, or you are an on-campus student only enrolled in off-campus units.

  • Request items you wish to borrow directly via the library catalogue
  • Choose "Off Campus Delivery" as your pick up location
  • Library staff will check the items out to you and post them to you
  • You'll be provided with a prepaid return envelope if your mailing address is within Australia
  • If you're living overseas, return postage will be at your own expense, but you'll receive reimbursement for postal charges if you provide the library with your post office receipts
  • Some restrictions do apply regarding items that can be sent overseas
  • 3rd and 4th year medical students are also eligible for off-campus delivery.

Staff delivery via the internal mail

If you prefer to collect your books from your campus library, select the location when you place the request. You will be notified via email when the book is ready for collection, or

  • Request the items you wish to borrow directly via the library catalogue
  • Choose "office delivery" as your pick up location
  • The book will be sent via the internal mail to your faculty address once checked out to you
  • Delivery to your home address can be negotiated.
