This collection covers the performing arts in general, public performances, stage presentations, social, folk and national dancing, and magic and related activities.

Purpose of the collection

The Library collects in the field of Performing and Creative Arts primarily to support the teaching and research needs of the School of Communication and Creative Arts within the Faculty of Arts and Education. Resources in this area are also used to varying degrees by the School of Education.

Users/courses supported by the collection

The School of Communication and Creative Arts offers the following performing and creative arts disciplines

  • Visual Arts
  • Graphic arts

Postgraduate courses are offered in Film and Video, Creative Enterprise, Media and Communication and postgraduate research degrees in all areas.


Existing Collection

Major online databases such as Art Abstracts, APA Full Text, Academic Search Complete, Communication and Mass media Complete, Expanded Academic ASAP, JSTOR, Project Muse, Film Indexes Online, ArtsHub, Dance in Video and Theatre in Video provide access to a range of information.

Selection Notes:

Currently nearly all material for this Division should be located at Melbourne. The exceptions are material in the context of primary education (also at Geelong and Warrnambool) and secondary education (also at Geelong). Specific areas of interest are as follows:
