Obtaining theses

Theses are not always easy to obtain and are often only available from the institution which granted the degree. Some may be available for loan or for purchase. An increasing number are available in digital format via services such as the Australasian Digital Theses website.

To check the availability of a thesis

  1. Check the Deakin University Library catalogue first to see if Deakin holds the required thesis.
  2. If not held at Deakin please submit a request via the interlibrary loan form, or contact your liaison librarian for more information.
  3. Where a thesis is held at another institution but is not available for loan, or is not held by any institution within Australia, the requestor will be notified.

Tip: If you cannot obtain a particular thesis remember to check if the author has published his/her research results in another form i.e. as a journal article or book.

How to write a thesis

The Academic Skills unit of Student Life, Deakin University, have written information pages to help you in the initial phases of studying as a higher degree by research (HDR) student. Their overview page includes a printable list of resources including a section on thesis writing.
