"The law's no job for a woman."

This was the advice given in 1948 by a Geelong solicitor to Margaret's father just after she matriculated and had been Dux of the senior class at Morongo College Geelong.  She wanted to attend Melbourne University and was thinking of studying law.  Her father followed the advice and she was enrolled for a Bachelor of Arts degree.

In 1973 she showed how wrong the advice had been when, after studying law, mostly part-time, she graduated with an Honours Law Degree and the Supreme Court Exhibition in the Law of Conveyancing.  She became a partner in a long established firm and was probably the first woman in Victoria to be chairperson of a Building Society.

Her blithesome personality made one forget the physical restrictions she had ever after she contracted polio-myelitis as a 7 year old child.
