Roy Fidge commenced his law practice at a time of severe economic depression.
1929 would have been a tough time to try and build up a legal practice.
By 1932 he had snared a valuable client, the Shire of Corio. This
was the large area to the north of Geelong. It included valuable
farmlands plus industry including Ford Motor Company. Industries
kept on coming to the municipality necessitating housing developments, so the amount of legal work involved in its expansion was a valuable source
of work for him and the firm of Price Higgins and Speed after he amalgamated
with that firm to form Price Higgins and Fidge in 1954.
Roy Fidge's biography lodged in this collection demonstrates his widespread
participation in community activities. It is not surprising that
Henry Bolte, Premier of Victoria, described him as "Mr. Geelong".
