T.C. Harwood, solicitor and member of the Victorian Parliament (1899-1912) was an early arrival among Geelong Lawyers.  He came in 1850, already qualified, having been admitted to the various English Courts in 1846.  The original certificates are the oldest documents held in the Geelong Lawyers collection.  He would have seen many changes in Victoria in his lifetime, the discovery of gold in 1852, the boom period of the 1880's, the economic collapse of the 1890's and Federation of the Colonies in 1901.

Harwood went into business on arrival and over his long life in the law entered into various partnerships.  Copies of some of those partnership deeds are also held in the Geelong Lawyers collection as is the deed of his appointment as solicitor for the Geelong City Council.   In 1900 the partnership of Harwood and Pincott took over the older firm of Taylor Buckland and Gates after the Geelong principal of that firm was arrested for forgery and uttering documents as a trustee.  Harwood and Pincott expanded as a well respected firm.  The name Harwood is currently part of the title of the firm Harwood Andrews.
