"This is dry work.  Let's walk over to the Prince of Wales and have a drink."

This was one client's memory of J.P. Hase.  As the "work" had been preparation of a farmer's tax return the observation was correct and the remedy suitable.

John Peter Hase would not have found happiness in today's mega legal firms with their equity partners, non equity partners, associates, and employee solicitors numbering dozens of qualified lawyers in the one firm and the inevitable office politics and disputes.  His clients were attracted to his independent style.  Starting from scratch he built up a good practice of substantial clients who trusted him to look after their investments and business matters.  They were quite happy to sign the mortgage documents he had prepared for them when they met at the racetrack.

J.P. Hase provided each of his family of five with a good education as his own father had done for him and his brother.  Although he saw his son Peter's success as a barrister his sudden death deprived him of witnessing Peter's appointment as a Justice of the Family Court of Australia.
