When Michael Henderson became a Councillor of Newtown in 1971 he was following precents set by other lawyers. S. V. Buckland who served from 1860 until 1886 was the first. Other Lawyers had also been Councillors for the City of Geelong.

Likewise in Parish matters and the promotion and administration of art and entertainment lawyers had contributed, often as honorary solicitors or in administration. Michael Henderson went a step and a song further. He sang on stage and in church services.

As a lawyer he followed the unusual path of General Practice in partnership, alone, then as a corporation lawyer and finally back again to sole practice. Why this occurred is set out in this account of his life.
