Frank Higgins was one of eight members of the Higgins family who practised
as solicitors in Geelong over a period of 138 years. He served articles
with his eldest brother William (1858-1932) but left to start his own firm
and took over the practice of J.L. Price (1838-1908) after Price died.
He later formed a partnership with Henry Speed (1867-1942) who had inherited
the practice of Henry Speed senior (1826-1892). That partnership
brought together three very early Geelong legal families in the one venture.
Frank Higgins' sons Geoffrey and Russell continued in the firm until the
1980s. With a pedigree going back to the 1860s it is not surprising
that the present day (March 2000) successors have kept the name Price Higgins
even though none are related or bear either name.
