A lion defends his territory against all comers.  How appropriate that the monument erected for E.A. McDonald is a powerful lion at the entry of the Geelong Town Hall.  He was a never-tiring advocate for the city he served as councillor.  His entry to the law was early, working as an office boy at 5 shillings a week.  He did not obtain admission to practice until he was 43.  None the less he was the first of a family of lawyers, his son A.E. McDonald solicitor, Member of Parliament and Minister, his grandson Allan McDonald, Supreme Court Judge, and his great-grandson, Michael Vines a partner in the firm of Wighton and McDonald formed when he was admitted to partnership by James Wighton in 1917.
