In 1872 Frederic Rupert Pincott (1846-1920) became a partner with T.C. Harwood (1825-1912) to form the well know firm of Harwood and Pincott.  By then Harwood was his father-in-law as he had married Harwood's daughter, Amelia, the year before.

Like many other lawyers he served on a municipal council and took office in public institutions, in his case the Geelong Yacht Club, the Geelong Football Club and the Geelong Hospital.

Geelong was an early settlement.  Many titles were, and some still are, derived from Crown Grants before the operation of the Transfer of Land Act, or Torrens System.  Old law conveyancing requires good legal knowledge and great care in drafting documents as an improperly drawn document can deprive an owner of his title.  Roy Dobson (1909-1998) served his articles with Harwood and Pincott after Pincott's death.  His principal drummed into him that Pincott's legendary skill as a conveyancing expert was the absolute standard a good lawyer had to aim to achieve.
