It could almost be said that J.L. Price died with his boots on.  He was in his 70th year when he died at home on the morning of the 12th March 1908.  He had been at his office the previous day transacting normal business including a professional appearance in the Police Court on a matter of dispute between husband and wife.  No doubt he intended to attend his office on the day of his death.

For the purposes of historical research it is fortunate that, in earlier times, newspapers published obituaries of some length.  As most Geelong lawyers engaged in community service it is usual to find in an obituary details of that service but little concerning his daily work as a lawyer.  In J.L. Price's case in the obituary held in this collection there is a description of his professional life as well as his many other contributions to the Geelong district.

A copy of the letter he wrote in December 1851, when aged 13, to his grandparents in England describing the finding of gold at "Bathirst" and in Victoria is an interesting addition to other material held.
