Appearing against Brian Treyvaud was always a pleasure and a severe test of one's ability as an advocate.  Always courteous to the court, witnesses and his opposition he had the skill to attract admissions from witnesses called by his opposition with his careful and persistent probing of evidence given.  He would then make a well prepared and unexpected submission in law to the court.

Brian's father, W.E.C. Treyvaud had been a solicitor with his own practice in the Melbourne suburb in Hampton and perhaps Brian would have joined him in that practice.  Unfortunately he died when Brian was only 18 and he had to forge his own career in the Law.  He did very well in Geelong appearing frequently in the Magistrates Court and before visiting judges in Supreme and County Courts.  He left the firm now known as Coulter Burke and established a career at the Victorian Bar followed by an appointment as a Judge of the Family Court of Australia.
