Peter Hutchinson, a Geelong solicitor who moved from legal practice to University lecturer and later returned to practice was the host when this convention was held a Geelong in November 1986. He was near the conclusion of his two years as President of the Geelong Law Association and a member of the Council of the Law Institute of Victoria. Because the Council had shown reluctance to the proposal of holding the convention at Geelong the local lawyers pullecd out all stops to make it a success. The documents lodged show the range of professional and social activities offered, the guests invited, the sponsorship given and the appreciation of those who attended. It is also a record of areas of legal practice about to expand such as Administrative law, Federal Court jurisdiction, and new concepts of land titles for retirement villages and Time Sharing apartments.
