Picture the scene. Thomas Harwood was 78 and Charles Woolley was 72
when they met at Brighton in England in 1903. They had not seen each other
for almost 40 years but had corresponded over that period. They were
having a most pleasant time recalling earlier times back in 1846 when Harwood,
at 25 had commenced his practice as an attorney in London and Woolley, in his
late teens working for him as a clerk. Little did they realise then that
Harwood would journey across the ocean in 1850 to the settlement of Geelong in
the Port Phillip District of New South Wales; that Woolley would also qualify,
sail to Port Phillip to become his partner there eight years later and then
return to Brighton in 1865.
Charles Woolley's story tells of that friendship and his time in Geelong.
