Checking items in
Whether you are working at a big campus with a large number of
returns or a small campus with low numbers of returns the principles
throughout the checkin process are the same.
The points below are important.
- When you arrive for your checkin shift adjust the keyboard and
mouse to suit you. Position the screen to reduce any glare or
reflection of light on the screen.
- The position you work in should be comfortable and allow you
to have good posture. Most times you should balance your weight
evenly between both feet, sometimes taking a pause to move the
weight from one foot to the other.
- Try to move your feet a little, not to eliminate twisting completely,
but to reduce the severity of the twisting and take pressure off
your back.
- Move your feet rather than reach if something is too far away.
- Keep your wrists straight.
- Wear comfortable footwear.
- Books should slide over the desk. Lifting the books puts more
stress on your wrists and arms.

At our Melbourne campus the books are pre-sorted by the patrons as they
return them, this saves staff one step in the process of checking
items in.
