Handle With Care Deakin University home page

Take care

  • Plan the process and be prepared to change if it’s not working as expected
  • Have the trolley in a position that is convenient for placing books on and requires minimal twisting
  • Develop a routine and pace that doesn’t put any undue pressure on an individual, i.e. holding the book while waiting for the other staff member to take it
  • Avoid excessive bending of the wrist
  • Don’t use a forceful grip, only use the required pressure and keep the grip expansion small
  • Swap positions regularly to avoid carrying out a repetitive task for too long
  • Put one row of books on a trolley only
  • Fill two trolleys and push one each to the new section
  • Sit on a step stool when passing books from the lower shelves
  • Be careful not to drop a book on your partner.
